Mother practicing breathwork in nature, grounding after pregnancy.

What I Wish I Knew About my Breath and Nervous System During Pregnancy

June 19, 20253 min read

I can’t believe it took me seven years after having a baby to learn this.

Seven years, two breathwork certifications, multiple nervous system programs, a stack of parenting books, and more courses than I can count. I was searching for something I couldn’t quite name, trying to make sense of why I felt like I was crumbling under the weight of motherhood, even though I “knew better.”

Logically, I understood I wasn’t failing. But emotionally and physically? It felt like I couldn’t hold it all.

What I didn’t know then, but do now, is this:

Pregnancy doesn’t just stretch your belly. It stretches your breath. Your organs shift. Your diaphragm moves. Your hormones change. Your nervous system adapts. And while most of the physical changes shift back over time, the patterns you pick up along the way—especially in your breath—often stay.

Unless you meet them with care and intention.

When I finally learned that, everything started to make sense.

The mouth breathing. The constant sense of alertness. The way my system stayed “on,” long after the baby was born.

It wasn’t just stress or lack of sleep. It was biology doing its job—and my body asking for support.

These changes aren’t bad. They’re needed. Your breath adapts so you can carry more. Your nervous system shifts to help you stay safe and responsive. It’s part of your body’s deep intelligence.

But without gentle tending, those adaptations can quietly become the new normal. They don’t always unwind on their own.

That’s what led me to co- create Breath Body & Baby.

A soft space to return to yourself. Not with pressure to fix anything, but with support to listen and feel. To grow your capacity in a way that feels sustainable.

At the heart of this course is a simple truth: Every breath is an invitation. Every pause is a place to meet yourself again.

We begin by building a relationship with your breath and your body. That’s the first step. Not performing calm, but exploring how support feels inside you. This work isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. It’s a conversation between your body and the tools we offer.

Because the goal isn’t perfect breath or constant peace. It’s connection. And from connection, real nourishment can unfold.

There’s also a quiet bonus to this work. You become a better listener—not just to your baby, but to yourself.

And that skill? It stays with you.

When stress rises or postpartum feels overwhelming, your breath can become a familiar place to land. Your nervous system likes consistency. And when you’ve practiced tending to it, you can return more easily to that grounded place.

In Breath Body & Baby, we explore:

  • Breathwork that meets you where you are

  • Nervous system care rooted in choice and attunement

  • Supportive tools for pelvic floor health and emotional regulation

All in a way that honors your pace and your process.

If this feels like something your body has been waiting for, you’re invited in. There’s space for you here.

Not to be perfect. But to be present.
